My grandmother, Mary Sutherland, had two illegit brothers and a sister, all born before her mother married. The brothers were drowned at sea, I think I told you, when their fishing boat was sunk by the Aberdeen steamer. Not uncommon in Scotland to have children outside matrimony it seems.
My gt grandmother was Jane or Jean Goodbrand, daughter of John and Catherine Goodbrand, mother of George and William Goodbrand who were drowned on the sailing ship Annie on Jan 20 1887. Also mother of Bathia, born 1861. My grandma would have been 14 when her brothers died, but she never mentioned them.

William married Jean Goodbrand, daughter of John Goodbrand and Catherine, on 6 Sep 1868 in Boyndie, Banffshire, Scotland UK. (Jean Goodbrand was born on 5 Mar 1841 in Portsoy, Banffshire Scotland, christened on 4 Apr 1841 and died on 21 May 1917 in Portsoy, Banffshire Scotland.)
