Mr Edwin George Rickard
We regret to announce the passing of a well-known identity of Stawell and Kilmore. Edwin George Rickard of Lancefield Rd, Kilmore who passed away at Kilmore Hospital on Sunday 7th inst. at the age of 47 years. Although the deceased's illness extended over 3 years, his demise came as a great shock to his widow and family, brothers and relatives. Deceased was the second son of the late Edward and Maria Rickard of Stawell, old pioneers of Stawell where deceased was born and where he was educated. As a young man he joined he Victorian Railways at Stawell, as a cleaner, and was stationed at Stawell for a few years. He later joined the Air Force where he served for 12 years during which time he married Miss Ruby Nicoll of Melbourne and there are four sons of the union. He commenced business as a brass founder in Melbourne and later moved to Kilmore and started the same business, residing there for 10 years. During his residence in Kilmore he was well known and highly respected as indicated by the large attendance at the funeral. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Kilmore. He had been in indifferent health for some time. He was associated with farming at Rose Hill, Kilmore until the time of his death. His passing will remove another pioneer from the district. Numerous floral tributes were received from friends in Melbourne, Stawell and Kilmore. He leaves to mourn his loss a widow and four sons - Alwin, Trevor, Rex and John: two grandchildren and five brothers William (Melbourne), Ernest (Ballarat), Roy (Ararat), Laurie (Ararat) and Ronald (Stawell) to whom is extended deepest sympathy. A service was held in the Methodist Church, Kilmore by Rev Leigh and the remains were laid to rest in the Fawkner General Cemetery. Diggle and Maher carried out the funeral arrangements. Coffin bearers were Messrs W., E., R., A., D., K Rickard and the pall bearers were Messrs F. Still, E. Ashton, R. Glanville, G. Tieney, W. Bradley and L. Rickard.
