MR EDWIN JAMES RICKARD
------------------
MRS MARIA ELIZABETH RICKARD
------------------
With deep regret we announce the double bereavement sustained by the family of the late Mr and Mrs. Edwin James Rickard, Fisher Street, Stawell, in the death of their parents within a few hours of one another.
Mrs Maria Elizabeth Rickard died in the Stawell Hospital on Thursday evening after an illness of some year's duration. She was born at Stawell and was the daughter of the late John and Jane Elizabeth Smith, very old and respected residents of Stawell. She was married at Stawell to Mr Edwin James Rickard whose death was reported yesterday afternoon - a few hours after the passing of his wife. The late Mrs Rickard, who was 65 years of age, was of a quiet disposition, but she made many friends who sincerely appreciated her fine womanly qualities and who offer heartfelt sympathy to her bereaved family, and to her brother, Mr George Smith of Buninyong.
Mr Edwin (Ted) James Rickard died in the Stawell Hospital yesterday afternoon. He had been in indifferent health for some considerable time and about a month ago took seriously ill, and despite expert medical and nursing attention he failed to rally and passed away as stated.
He was a familiar figure about the town and always had a cheery word for all. Born at Bendigo, he came to Stawell as a young man and has resided here ever since. He was a son of the late William John and Grace Rickard, and he was sixty-six years of age. He was married at Stawell to Miss Maria Elizabeth Smith who, as already stated predeceased him by a few hours.
They leave a family of six sons, William John (2nd AIF), Edwin George (West Brunswick), Ernest James (AMF), Roy Herbert (AMF), Albert Laurence (Ararat) and Donald Robert (AMF) to whom deep sympathy is extended in their great loss. One daughter Elsie May predeceased her parents.
The funeral is appointed to leave their late residence, Fisher Street, Stawell this (Saturday) afternoon at 2.30 o'clock for the Stawell Cemetery. The members of the M.U.I.O.O.F Lodge are requested to attend. Messrs F. J. Crouch and Son have charge of the funeral arrangements.
