General Notes:
Dr Mark Anthony Buntine Hi, this is my personal page. I am the Principal Investigator in the Chemical Dynamics Group. If you have any comments or queries, please email me at: mark.buntine@adelaide.edu.au Elsewhere in the Chemical Dynamics site you'll find information about the science that we do. Here I will tell you a little about some of the things I like to do when I'm not in the lab. Like other members of the group, I like to participate in rogains. I am also a member of the Adelaide Brewmasters, a small group of beer brewers who make some pretty good product. I leave it to Greg to deal with the sausages! On my own I have an interest in grooving to a tribal beat with my conga and djembe drums. I'm getting pretty proficient after almost two years getting to learn African tribal and Cubo-African rythms. I practice, and sometimes perform at small community functions, with an eclectic group of people. We call ourselves Home Brew to reflect the natural, homemade essence of our music. Here is a picture of me in the lab, a place I don't get to spend as much time as I'd like; it seems a lot of paperwork gets in the way!

The academic staff deserve a passionate, effective voice on Council that articulates the importance of strengthening our University’s reputation as a leading scholarly institution. I lead a major, externally funded research program and have received several research awards, including the Royal Australian Chemical Institute’s (RACI) Rennie Memorial Medal (1999), a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Visitation Fellowship (2002-2003) and an Australian Academy of Science International Exchange Award (2005). I have received several teaching awards, including the RACI’s Centenary of Federation Teaching Award (2004) and D.R. Stranks Medal for Chemical Education (2004), as well as a Stephen Cole the Elder Prize for Excellence in Teaching (2000). My academic leadership experience includes serving as Deputy Head (2002) and Head of Chemistry (2003-2005, 2006-2008). I am the Division’s Representative to the RACI Board and serve on that Institute’s Investment Committee. I have the skills and experience to effectively represent academic staff on Council.
Mark married Vicky Barnett. (Vicky Barnett was born circa 1975.)
