General Notes:
Ann was living in Clifton Street, Prahran before she married. Her brother's John and Henry Stephens were the witnesses at her wedding to John Pope Whitehead. After her marriage they lived in several places. Ann and John lived at Commercial Road, Prahran, Francis St, Prahran, Malvern Rd, Toorak up to 1878. From 1878 to 1881, they lived on a farm at Wandin Yallock where the twins, Harry and Margaret were born. On returning to Melbourne in 1881, they went back to Prahran for a time, and then moved to Richmond where again they had several addresses. They were at Metropolition St in 1888/9, 380 Bridge St in 1895, 221 Swan St from 1896 to 1901, and 21 Manton St from 1910 onwards. The house in Manton St is still there, but the number has changed to No 7. Unusual perhaps for those days Ann had several occupations even though she was not a widow. In Wise's Post Office Directory 1895/96, there is an intriguing entry for John P Whitehead and Ann Whitehead as Drapers at 380 Bridge Street, Richmond. In 1899/1900 a Mrs Annie Whitehead has a crockery shop at 221 Swan St, Richmond. In the Victorian Electoral Roll for 1903, Ann is described as a dressmaker. Ann died on 26th April 1915 aged 72 years at the home of her daughter Edith Moad, 44 Station Street, Camberwll. She died of gall stones and exhaustion. On her death certificate her children are listed as Naomi 50, Fanny (dead), Elizabeth 47, Lewis (dead), Samuel 43, Edith 42, Lewis (dead), William (dead), Harry, Margaret - twins 34, Walter 32, Ruth (dead) Alice 30. Her tombstone reads: Ann (nee Stephens) Whitehead aged 72 died 26th April 1915 John Pope aged 86, died 6 January 1921 Thomas Kitson Moad aged 42 died 27 september 1913 loved parents and husband of Edith Moad.
