Les lived at Ascot Vale when he was growing up.
He served in the First World War. 3191 Private (O.L. Hiscock) 6 field ambulance. A.I.F. He landed at Gallipoli. He got enteric fever and was discharged.
He went to Bombay where he recovered. Les enlisted again in Australia and spent the rest of his enlistment serving as a dentist.
Les married Ruth Hutson in 1916. Sadly Ruth died in childbirth on the 23 January 1918. In the Argus of 22 January 1918 an announcement was made about a stillborn daughter born on the 17th January 1918 to Les and Ruth.
In 1920 Les married Ruby Fuhrmann and they had two sons Russell, born in 1922 and Leslie Maxwell (Max) born 1933.
Tragedy again struck when Max was struck by a tram outside the South Melbourne Technical School on the 5th June 1942 when he was only nine years old.
Les was a dentist and for a while he had a business with his brother William at Jeparit. Later on he had his own business at 375 Montague Street, Albert Park.
Ruby died in 1961 and Les in 1963.

Les enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 9/3/1915 . His certificate of medical examination describes him as 20 years and 10 months, height - 5 feet six and a half inches, weight 9 stone 10 lbs, chest measurement 34/36 inches, complexion - medium, eyes - blue, hair - brown and religious denomination - Church of England. His distinctive marks were Vac 4 left arm, slight scar right knee and scar left knee. He served in the Field Ambulance at Gallipoli. He was admitted to hospital with lumbago on 30/9/15 and discharged 6/10/15. He was sent back to his unit and re-admitted with Enteric Fever on 21/10/1915, and embarked for Australia on 21/1/1916 he was discharged on 25/4/1916.

Les re-enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 9/8/1916. Les served as a senior sergeant in the dental detail. He was discharged 6/2/1920 and his private address was 54 Dover Street, Flemington.

Oliver married Ruth Hutson, daughter of Edwin Hutson and Emily Maud Deeble, in 1916 in Victoria Australia. (Ruth Hutson was born in 1895 in Essendon, Melbourne, Victoria Australia, died on 23 Jan 1918 in 14 Learmonth St, Essendon, Melbourne, Victoria Australia and was buried on 24 Jan 1918 in Fawkner Crematorium & Memorial Park, Melbourne, Victoria Australia.)
