MR. JOHN COOK.
   The news of the death of Mr. John Cook, which took place at his residence, Rochford came as a great shock to numerous friends. He had been assisting to lope trees in the Church grounds near his residence on Saturday afternoon. He complained of pains in the chest and before he could receive medical attention he had passed away.
   He was a native of the district being a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Cook. For many years he and his brother had conducted a blacksmiths' business in Rochford. He was not only well known and respected in Rochford, but in Lancefield, Romsey, Woodend and Newham districts as well, and in all these parts his passing away is deeply regretted.
   The deceased leaves a widow, for whom a great deal of sympathy has been expressed, to mourn her great loss. Mrs. Cook is also a Rochford native, being a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Johnson Hemphill.
   The funeral, which was very largely attended, took place at the Lancefield cemetery on Monday last. The Rev. D. E. Sprigg and Mr F. Brierly (Methodist Home Missioner) conducted the services at the home and also at the graveside. Mr. W. A. Gallpen had charge of the funeral arrangements.

John married Rebecca Jane Hemphill, daughter of Johnstone Hemphill and Rebecca Jane Kyle, in 1896 in Victoria Australia. (Rebecca Jane Hemphill was born in 1875 in Rochford, Victoria Australia, died on 6 Oct 1949 in Lancefield, Victoria Australia and was buried on 7 Oct 1949 in Lancefield Cemetery, Victoria Australia.)
