  General Notes:

The Lancefield Mercury. Thursday, 20th October, 1949.
We regret to report the death , on 6th October, at the residence of her sister Mrs. E. Parks, Romsey, of Mrs Rebecca Jane Cook, after a long illness.
The late Mrs. Cook, who was 74 years of age, was the daughter of the late Johnstone and Rebecca Hemphill, early pioneers of the Rochford district of treasured memory. Her husband Mr. J. Cook, predeceased her about ten years ago. She was a most kindly lady of quiet disposition, and many neighbours remember with gratitude her help and ministations in times of sickness and distress. She was an ardent and enthusiastic worker for the Rochford Methodist Church, being a member of the Ladies Guild, and for many years was one who officiated at the organ. During the last war she was an untiring worker for the Rochford branch of the Comforts Fund, and was always a willing helper at various functions held at that centre.
Many friends tender sincere sympathy to her sister, Mrs. Ernest Banks, who is now the sole surviving member of that pioneering family.
The remains were interred in the Lancefield cemetery on Friday, 7th October, Rev. Mr. Boyd officiating at the gravesite. Coffin-bearers were Messrs. T. L. Parks, D. L. Parks, P. A. Mitchell and G. Parks, and the pall was carried by Messrs. F. Matthews, E. Matthews, R. Moore, K. Poustie, D. Cook, N. Postie, A. Matthews and A. Hemphill. Messrs. P. Mitchell, T. A. Parks, F. A. White, W. Hemphill, A. Aldridge, D. Cook, A. Currie, N. Barnes and A. Hemphill acted as flower bearers.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. C. Diggle.

Rebecca married John Cook, son of David Mitchell Cook and Jane Armstrong, in 1896 in Victoria Australia. (John Cook was born in 1878 in Rochford, Victoria Australia, died on 2 Sep 1939 in Romsey, Victoria Australia and was buried on 4 Sep 1939 in Lancefield Cemetery, Victoria Australia.)
