George Bowles Woodley

George and his wife, Helena, and their son, William, left for Australia on the ship Margaret, sailing from Cork harbour on the 24th January 1837 and arriving in Sydney Cove on 30th May 1837.
They shared the ship with 153 female prisoners and 28 children as well as 35 free women and their children, families of convicts in the colony.
They were an adventurous young couple coming to Australia to take up the position of Manager of the recently opened Church of England school in Bathurst, New South Wales. Now known as Kelso.
Their life in Australia would have been completely different to that which they knew in Ireland. The extreme heat in the summer would have been something that they had never experienced before. However, George and Helena prospered, were active in the community, on school boards and parish committees, and lived to see their children do the same. Two of their sons were the original settlers at Old Dubbo and are mentioned in Australian Men of Mark Vol.2.
(George Bowles Woodley may not be the son of William Woodley and his wife Isabella de Vere Bowles, but he may be the son of William`s half-brother Francis Woodley and his wife Anna Christiana Bowles
