Catherine Genevieve was born on 17th October 1893, in Sheppardstown, N.S.W. Known to her family as Kit, her early years were spent in Grahamstown before the family moved to North Sydney. Kit attended Monte Saint Angelo College at North Sydney. It was some years before they all moved to Vatua 29 Moorami Ave, Kensington in 1922.
World War One had broken out and Catherine, 23, was engaged to Edmund Columbus Rehehan, from Cootamundra. Unfortunately her fiance was one of the many casualties of this terrible war and died in France in 1916.
At the age of 32 years, Catherine, who was a dressmaker and living at Kensington married Charles Beresford Cook, a 36 year old builder from Manly. They were married on 15th January 1927 in Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church at Kensington by Fr. E McAuliffe. According to his Marriage Certificate, Charles Beresford Cook was born in Sydney in 1891, but he was actually born Charles William Beresford Cook on 2nd September 1889 at 129 Riley Street, Sydney. Charlies` parents were English born, William John Cook, a builder, and his New Zealand born wife, Helen Elizabeth Laurie and they were married in Sydney on 16th October 1886. At the time of Charles birth, the family was living at Harris Street, Ultimo, and later they moved to Chatswood. Charlies was a member of the A.I.F 15th Field Coy. Engineers and spent 3 years and 50 days in France during W.W.I. Both of his parents were deceased at the time of his marriage to Kit.
After their marriage, Catherine and Charlies went to live in Manly where Charlies had a bus run, with the depot in Raglan Street, Manly. Kit and Charlies had three children; Betty, Mary and Bill.
Catherine Genevieve Kenny Cook died in January 1973. She is buried with her husband Charles in the Frenchs Forest Bushland Cemetery.
