Charles Beresford Cook

  • Born: 2 Sep 1889, Ultimo, Sydney, NSW Australia
  • Marriage (1): Catherine Genevieve Kenny on 15 Jan 1927
  • Died: 1 Aug 1963, Queenscliff, Sydney, NSW Australia at age 73

Noted events in his life were:

• source. Mary-Ann who writes:
Charlie (as he was known) served in World War I in the 15th Field Company Engineers. He joined up in 1916 and was first sent to England then off to France after five months there. He stayed there until the beginning of 1919 and then worked for some months in Maidenhead as a builder. He returned to Australia later that year.
In 1927, Charlie and Kit were married and they went to live in Manly where Charlie had a bus run. The depot was in Raglan Street, Manly. They built a house in Queenscliff overlooking the beach. They were not to remain in Manly as the Lang government claimed the bus run and put in government buses. Charlie went to Parramatta with some of his buses and bought into the Hills District Buses and spent the next fifteen years at Parramatta. The buses he did not take were turned into trucks and a trucking business was run in Belgrave Street, Manly and then a car repair and paint shop.
In about 1952 through the dealership of J A Gilbert (a great friend), he got delivery of a couple of Holdens a month and thus in retirements he set up Inder Motors; so called after his late friend Pat Inder who had been manager of the trucking business. The Holden dealership expanded and the business moved to Balgowlah where he eventually acquired land on the corner of Condamine Street and Balgowlah Road (a Holden delearship is still there).

Charles William Beresford Cook died in August 1963, from Cardiac Failure. He is buried in the Frenchs Forest Bushland Cemetery, at Davidson - Church of England Monumental Section - Row G. Grave No. 70.
