Martin arrived in Sydney on the 30th March 1864 from Plymouth on board the Queen of the East, with his older brother John.
In about 1893 Martin contracted a paralysis of the throat which he suffered for some three years. In 1897 he came down with influenza and unfortunately this contributed to his death.
He was buried in the Roman Catholic Cemetery at Adelong on 25th March 1897. (A magisterial enquiry was held into his death on 25th March 1897.)
