"During the 1950`s we lived at Gravesend, Kent on the southern side of the River Thames. It was a reasonably short trip to the Forrest`s at 2 Duke Road, Barkingside. We used to catch the ferry across the Thames to Tilbury and then by steam train, which passed the massive Ford Motor Works at Dagenham before changing trains somewhere to get to Barkingside. I especially remember travelling to Harry;s with my mother from Gravesend (Dad was posted to Norway at the time) to watch Queen Elizabeth II`s coronation on their new television on 2nd June 1953. Few people had television then, so this was a large family affair as well as including the neighbours from all around."
