Passed away Wednesday March 12, 1997, at Hoyt Nursing Home, Age 90 years. Lyman John Goes was born July 6, 1906 in Saginaw. He married Susan Orr on August 16, 1940 in Saginaw she survives him. He was active in his father's company, taking over operations Goes Seed land Equipment in 11939, retiring in 1962. He also owned Standard Seed Co., Bay City; co-owner of Cox & Goes, Inc. (Kaiser-Fraser) and Universal Farm Sales Co. He was also involved in sales and erection of Steel buildings (Quonset) at the end of World War II. He served as chairman for Saginaw County Scrap Iron Drive during World War II and was also a member of the local Bond Drive Committee from 1941-1945. He was appointed as a member of the Committee of 8 by the Office of Price Administration in Washington to set regulations for the farm equipment industry in the United States. He was the only member of the farm equipment industry requested to testify before the Joint Congressional Committee (House and Senate) as to wage and hour regulations. Mr. Goes served as chairman of the Saginaw County Republican Finance Committee. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Saginaw Auditorium from 1948-1952, serving as chairman from 1950-1952. He was president of the Michigan Farm Equipment Association in 1951 and president of the National Farm Equipment Association in 1956. He served as a Director of First Savings and Loan Association from 1945-1980. Mr. Goes served as Exalted Ruler of the Saginaw Lodge #47 B.P.O.E. and was Director of the Royal Order of Jesters in 11958. He received the Legion of Honor Degree from the international Supreme Council Order of DeMolay in 1962. He was a life member of Saginaw Lodge #77 F.&A.M.,, a life member of the Bay City Consistory, a life member of the Elf Khurafeh Shrine Temple, where he he served a Potentate in 1949. He was the first general chairman of the Elf Khurafeh Shrine Circus for l10 years. He was a member of the Saginaw Club. Mr. Goes was a former member of the Pioneer Club, the Rotary, the Hasty Harry Club and a former member of the Saginaw Country Club. Surviving besides his wife are one son, Lyman John Goes, Jr. and his wife Diana, Kalamazoo, two sister-in-law. Sally Spleer. Saginaw and Betsey Orr, Orlando Florida, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will take place 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, 1997 at Oakwood Mausoleum. Rev. Dr. Charles Guerreno, Jr. will officiate. Friends may call at the W. L. Case & Company funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and then at the Mausoleum from 1:00 p.m. Friday until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital.
