  General Notes:

Zoe Cochrane notes:
Rose's mother Beatrice died when she was 11 years old. Rose was sent to live in Perth with her Dad's brother Maurice. My mother told me he was still alive in 1939/40 because she bumped into him with my Mum and he said she looked just like Rose. He was very fond of my grandmother Rose. Rose didn't get on well with her Aunty, Florence and left when she was about 18 and went to live with a Jewish family who were dressmakers. Because of the depression, she had to wait four years before marrying my Grandfather Jack. So the record of Maurice dying earlier in NSW doesn't ring true, but further research would need to be done there. My grandparents met in 1930 at Glen Forrest National Park in Perth.

All of Rose's siblings lived in NSW. In 2003 Mum and I went to visit her brother Charles Jeffery, but he was taken in by his Mum's brother when Beatrice died, he was only about two years old. Elsie, not Elise, the youngest daughter was put in an orphanage as the two oldest children could not take her and Zachariah my great grandfather could not look after her. Charles was living in Annadale. He loved trains, just like his father Zachariah who used to drive trains.

I also remember my grandmother telling me that Richard Hennessy Jeffery dying when he was only about 36 years old helping another farmer gets some bullocks across a river and it was sad that Zachariah never knew his father, but his stepfather was a lovely man who got married to his mother Bridget Taylor.

Rose and Jack had four children.

She later added:
When Rose was 21, not long before she got married, she took a ship to Sydney to visit her brothers and sisters. Living in Perth was a long way for them to be able to see each other. I know Doris was a good correspondent and wrote to my grandmother on a regular basis. Doris was the one who kept the family together and up to date with all that was going on. In 1960 my grandparents went to live in Sydney for a couple of years which was nice for them as my grandmother could catch up with some of her siblings. I remember my Mum also saying she met Zachariah her grandfather in 1955 when she was about 16 when the family went to Sydney for a holiday. Zachariah was in the First World War and like many men of that generation, they were traumatised from what they went through and this made it difficult for themselves and their family when they returned home. Beatrice died at the age of 45, due to sad circumstances, which is another story.
