  General Notes:

Zoe Cochrane notes:

Beatrice's parents were John Weathers and Esther Mary Day. I have been unable to find out any information about John Weathers, sometimes listed as Johannis Weathers, or John Withers. Esther Mary Day was born in Gloucestershire, England. Her parents Charles and Alice Day were from Gloucestershire, England too, they were married in Cheltenham. They emigrated to Armidale, New South Wales as they were farmers in England and Armidale was an attractive area for new emigrants. There are ancestors of Charles and Alice Day who are living in the Armidale area. I was able to find out a bit from the English Census, also doing research on My Heritage and Find my Past was very useful too.

Rose's mother Beatrice died when she was 11 years old. Rose was the third youngest child and she was adopted by her Dad's brother Maurice Jeffery and his wife Florence (nee Jessop), they died in 1945 and 1943 respectively. My mother told me when she was a baby Rose bumped into Maurice in town (Perth) with Gwen, my mother, and he said she looked just like Rose. He was very fond of my grandmother. When Rose was 18, she went to live with a Jewish family who were dressmakers.

All of Rose's siblings lived in NSW. In 2003 Mum and I went to visit her brother Charles Jeffery, he was taken in by his Mum's brother when his mother Beatrice died, he was only about two years old. Elsie, the youngest daughter was put in an orphanage as the two oldest children could not take her and Zachariah my great grandfather could not look after her. Charles was living in Annadale. He loved trains, just like his father Zachariah who used to drive trains.

I also remember my grandmother telling me that Richard Hennessy Jeffery dying when he was only about 36 years old helping another farmer gets some bullocks across a river and it was sad that Zachariah never knew his father, but his stepfather was a lovely man who got married to his mother Bridget Taylor.

My grandparents met in 1930 at Glen Forrest National Park in the Perth hills. My grandmother was friends with his sisters. They married on April 20, 1935. Rose and Jack had four children, Geoffrey Harcourt Bastian, Gwenneth Millicent Bastian (Cochrane), Neville David Bastian and Dennis John Bastian (who died at 8 days old, he was born a month premature and they didn't have good facilities after the second war in Perth, otherwise he would have lived).

Beatrice married Zachariah Joseph Jeffery, son of Richard Hennessey Jeffery and Bridget Taylor, on 4 Sep 1901 in Holy Trinity C of E, Erskineville, Sydney, NSW Australia. (Zachariah Joseph Jeffery was born on 22 May 1876 in Boxers Creek, near Goulburn, NSW Australia and died on 1 Sep 1958 in Concord, Sydney, NSW Australia.)
