Sarah (Jane) Warby

   Other names for Sarah were Jane and Mary Jane (in church papers for her Christening).

  General Notes:

Joseph and Elizabeth's second daughter was born at Campbelltown on 28th December, 1839 following her parents' marriage fourteen months previously. Her baptism at St. Peter's Anglican Church on 23rd February, 1840 would have been a happy family affair. The church recorded her name as Mary Jane but all other written references to her are as Sarah Jane. However, she was known as Jane, the girl with fair hair and corn flower blue eyes.Convicts, who always seemed underfed, were still working in the Campbelltown area when Jane was a child. A knock at the kitchen door and a request for food would be answered with damper or something similar.In a household of thirteen children everyone had assigned jobs. Jane was the family dressmaker. The mass production of clothing was yet to come and ladies who did not make their own clothes employed a dressmaker. Jane made the men's shirts as well as dresses for herself and her eight sisters. Sheets, pillowcases, aprons and tea towels were all make at home.

Sarah married John Benjamin Moore, son of Benjamin Tanner Moore and Harriet Miller, on 2 Nov 1864 in St Davids Presbyterian Church, Campbelltown, Sydney, NSW Australia which is in the Parish of St Peters. (John Benjamin Moore was born on 17 Jul 1832 in East Street, Walworth, London England, christened on 3 Nov 1832 in St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, London, Surrey England and died on 27 May 1924 in "St Elmos", Broughton St, Campbelltown, NSW Australia.)
