During the war became Pilot Officer on 2.1.1943 (Gazette 32/43); Flying Officer 2.7.1943 (Gasette 190/43) and Flight Officer on the 1.1.1945 (Gazette 27/45).
At that time he lived in 3 Wentworth Place, Point Point (with his in-laws) until they bought a home at 22 Stafford Road, Artarmon in September, 1945.

His place of death was Ocean view Nursing Home, Mona Vale.
Death Notice: Sydney Morning Herald: 3 March 1998. He was cremated on 4th March 1998.

Medical:
Died after long illness & operations with brain tumor, i.e. Glioblastoma multiforme.

Edward (Ted) Naasson Dawes was educated at Hayfield Preparatory School, Carlingford, the Scots College, Bellevue Hill, the University of Sydney (1934-37) from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree and the University of New South Wales from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree (in Accounting, Finance and System) in 1985. In March 1939, after completing five years as an Articled Clerk with a master solicitor, he was admitted to the New South Wales and Commonwealth Bars and commenced practice as a Barrister-at-Law. Shortly afterwards war broke out.

On the 27 December 1941, he married at St. Mark's Church of England at Darling Point, Margaret Viliers Cathie, the elder daughter of the late Harold and Edith Jane Cathie.

During the War II, 'Ted' served in the Royal Australian Air Force where, after undertaking technical courses in radio and radar, followed by a course in administration and special duties, he was commissioned as a Radar Offficer. After an operational tour as offficer in charge of airborne and radar maintenance, firstly with the 20 Squadron (Catalinas) and subsequently with an operational maintenance unit, he was posted to RAAF Headquarters where he was responsible for the overall maintenance and efficiency of airborne radar equipment throughout the air force. Later he carried out Prototype installations of radar equipment in RAAF aircraft and was responsible for liaison with aircraft manufacturers. He was awarded the War Medal 1939-45 and the Australian Service Medal.

After discharge from the RAAF, Ted returned to his profession and developed a wide practice as a barrister engaged mainly in company, equity, bankrupty, taxation, patent, land valaution and town planning matters. He is the author of 'Dawes' Australian Proprietary and Private Companies' - Law and Management' 1955 and was consulting editor for later editions of this work by R.N. Purvis in 1964 and 1973.

In June 1958 'Ted' was appointed to the Judicial Offices of Master in Equity and Master in Lunacy (later title, Master in the Protective Division) of the Supreme Court of New South Wales whcih offices he held until his retirement in 1976.

Following upon his retirement, 'Ted' became a Director on the Board of several Companies. Subsequently, by way of further education and to keep his mind active, 'Ted' embarked upon a degree course in Commerce at the University of New South Wales and graduated in 1985.

Ted was a member of the Council of the New South Wales Bar Association in 1949. He was a member of the Returned Services League of Australia; the Royal Motor Yacht Club (Broken Bay Branch); Royal Automobile Club of Australia and the North Sydney Anzac Memorial Club. A keen tennis player in his earlier years, he also enjoyed boating, swimming, fishing, photography and music for relaxation.

Ted is listed in 'Community Leaders of the World', Dictionary of International Biography', 'Five Thousand Personalities of the World', International Authors and Writers Who Who', International Register of Profiles', 'Men of Achievement', 'Men and Women of Distinction', 'Notable Australians', 'Who's Who in Australia', 'Who's Who in the Commonweatlh', 'Who's Who in the World', 'The Blue Book', 'The International Book of Honour', 'The International Who's Who of Contemporary Achievement', The International Who's Who of Intellectuals' and 'The Writer's Directory'.

After the war Ted lived at 22 Stafford Road, Artarmon with his wife and three children and then moved to 108 Prince Alfred Pde, Newport NSW 2106 in 1967 - 1997. He died on the 28th February, 1998.
