• fact. John GLASSON and Blanch KEMP were married by licence by E Marshall, Vicar. The marriage was witnessed by Joseph KEMP and Thos JOHNS. John GLASSON II sold Ledgereth to a Mr GOODE in 1841 for 1460 pounds to settle a debt of 700 pounds as a result of a shipping speculation. He took out a 21 year lease on it as well as leasing Ledgereth (161 acres) and Trvenna( c, 100 acres) and Pella ( area unknown) and possibly Culvary with a 12 year lease to run after 1841. From an article written over a hundred years ago by Thurstan C. Peter - The Church of St. Breage, and the village which takes its name from that church were named after Breaca, an Irishwoman born in either Ulster or Leinster during the sixth century. A party of Irish, including King Germoe, Elwen, Crowan and their followers landed at riviere where they were attacked by Tendar, Cornwall's famed tyrant. Tendar slew many of them including Saint Uni, brother of Breaca, and the patron saint of Redruth. Breaca seems to have established several churches, and is supposed to have removed the Breage church from Trenoweth to its present site. The Domesday Book states that even as early as the time of Edward the Confessor, the See of Exeter derived an income from the parish of Breage, as it was the owner of the Manor and market of Methleigh. On December the 2nd, 1398, John Rynsy of Godolghan, and Elianora his wife were licensed for oratories in their manor of Godolghan and Rynsy in St. Breage. Rynsy took his wife's maiden name of Godolphin, hence the name of the mansion. In Bishop Brantigham's Register there is mention of a chapel to St. Mary at Godolphin. John died aged 76.
