  General Notes:

Named after one of the Hebrew midwives in Exodus

("The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the first was Shifrah and the name of the second was Puah" 'When you deliver the Hebrew women, and you see them on the birthstool; if it is a son, you are to kill him, and if
it is a daughter, she shall live (Exodus 1:15-17).'"). The name Puah, comes from a Hebrew root that implies a particular gift of speech. Rashi (R' Shlomo Yitzchaki, 1040-1105, the preeminent Torah commentator) comments that Puah was able to
soothe a crying baby to sleep with her special way of talking. (See http://www.torah.org/learning/women/class45.html)

• Religion: Arrived at Sydney 19 January 1838, aboard the barque Layton.
