Thomas Denis Joseph Conwell was born in 1852 in Kent, England. He came to Australia with his
parents in 1854 at the age of 2 yrs.
In 1875 he became a probationary Constable and a few months later became an Ordinary Constable.
His descendants say he was involved in the search for Captain Thunderbolt around Tamworth.
On the 5th January 1876 he was discharged from the Police Service.
He married Margaret King, daughter of Matthew and Margaret King, in 1878 at Tamworth, NSW and they had 7 known children, Walter born1881, Matthew 1882, Mary 1882, Catherine 1888, Julia 1891, Thomas 1893, and Veronica 1897.
Family say he went to China in the Boxer Rebellion and a T Conwell did embark as an able seaman to China at that time.
In 1911 he was living at 6 Gas Lane, Sydney.
Margaret died on the 9th October, 1916 at St Leonards and Thomas on the 9th May, 1923. He is buried at Gore Hill.
1. Walter John Conwell was born in 1881 at Tamworth and married Alice Gertrude Tonkin in 1904. Alice was born in 1886. They do not appear to have had children.
From at least 1907 to 1940 they lived in Balmain and he was a Stevedore.
Walter died in 1940 and is buried at Rookwood (SEC M2 15 2043) and Alice in 1951.
2. Matthew Conwell was born in 1882 at Tamworth. Nothing else is known.
3. Mary Conwell was born in 1882 at Tamworth. She married Antooni (Anthony) Veltman in 1914. Antooni was born in Amsterdam, Holland. They had one known child, William born and died 1913.
In 1916 Antooni was a naturalized Australian and enlisted in the army for WW1. At the time his occupation was "Cook". He was 41 yrs and 8 mths old, 5'6 ¾ "with a dark complexion, brown eyes and black hair. He was Roman Catholic.
In May 1917 he was returned to Australia for discharge being over age and having defective vision.
Antoony possibly died in 1938 at Prince Henry Hospital (if so they lived at Moore Park, Sydney) and Mary died in 1959.
4. Catherine M. Conwell was born in 1888 at Sydney and died there in 1889.
5. Julia Florence Ann (Florrie) Conwell was born in 1891 in Sydney and married William L. Gaughan in 1912. William Gaughan was born in 1888 in Leichhardt, Sydney.
They had 3 known children, Norman N. Gaughan born 19--, William 19-and Lionel 1919.
They lived in Bank St, North Sydney their entire lives and William was a labourer.
William died in 1972 at St. Leonards, Sydney and Florrie in 1974.
1. Norman Matthew Gaughan was born in 19--. He married Marjorie Florence Wilkinson in 1943 at North Sydney. Marjorie was born in 1917. They had one known child, Raymond born 19--.
From at least 1943 to 1980 they lived at Lane Cove, Sydney and Norman was a Tram Employee.
Norman died on the 10th October 1990 at Lane Cove and Marjorie on the 29th November 2008 also at Lane Cove.
2. William Gaughan was born in 19- and married Patricia Babington in 1939 at North Sydney.
William was a labourer and they lived at Crows Nest, Sydney from at least 1943 to 1954.
3. Lionel Gaughan was born on the 30th December 1919 in Sydney. He married Brenda Lydia Hannon in 1942. Brenda was born in 1922.
They had one child Joyce born and died in 1944. Brenda also died in 1944 probably in childbirth.
Lionel remarried on the 23rd October 1948 at Naremburn, NSW to Gwendoline Mary Hawkins. They had one known child, Denise born 19--.
From at least 1954 to 1980 they lived at Cabramatta and Lionel was a storeman.
Lionel died on the 11th December 2004 at Liverpool, Sydney. Gwendoline died in 2013.
1. Joyce Gaughan was born and died in 1944 in Sydney.
2. Denise Gaughan was born in 19--. In 1977 she lived with her parents at Cabramatta and was a machine operator.
6. Thomas Denis Joseph Conwell was born on the 25th October, 1893 in Sydney and married Bridget Ratter in 1918 in Sydney.
In 1936 they lived at 46 Gloucester St, Darling Harbour, Sydney. Thomas was a labourer.
They had 6 known children, Thomas born 1919, Jack 1921, Daphne 1923, Shirley 1925, Con 1927 and Harold 19--.
Thomas died in 1958 at Sydney and Bridget on the 27th March 1970 at Beverley Hills, Sydney (Ryerson Index).

In 1980 they lived at Clemton Park, Sydney and was a Truck Driver.
Thomas died on the 19th August 2001.

2. Jack Conwell was born in 1921 and died in 1922.
3. Daphne Audrey Veronica Conwell was born in 1923. She married Charles Francis John Toni in Sydney in 1946 and they had one known child, Mary Eileen Toni born 19--.
From at least 1963 to 1980 they lived at Green Valley, NSW and Charles was a Park Attendant.
Charles died on the 23rd April, 1991 at Liverpool, Sydney.

4. Shirley Doreen Conwell was born in 1925 and married Arthur Burton Clay in 1949. They had one known child, Brian Arthur born 19--.
In 1963 Arthur was a motor driver and they lived at La Perouse. From at least 1968 to 1980 they lived at Peakhurst and Arthur was a clerk.
Shirley died on the 5th April 2012 at Campbelltown, NSW.
5. Con Patrick Conwell was born on the 28th December 1927. In 1952 he married Noelyn Marjorie Holmes. Noelyn was born in 1929.
From at least 1958 to 1963 they lived at Rydalmere and he was a carrier.
From at least 1968 to 1972 they lived at Ermington and he was a carrier.
Con died on the 18th December 1979 in Sydney and Noelyn died in 2002.
6. Harold Conwell was born in 19--. From at least 1942 to 1949 he was in the military.
Harold married Gwendoline Jean O'Brien in 1950 in Sydney, and they had 2 known children, Ian born 19-and Wendy 19--.
From at least 1954 to 1968 Harold was a packer and they lived firstly at Bexley and then Belmore.
In 1980 they are still living at Belmore and Harold was in Transport Supply.
Harold died on the 12th June 1991

7. Veronica Mary Josephine Conwell was born in 1897 and married Colin A. Campbell in 1922.
They had one known child, Colin Alexander born 19--.
From at least 1937 to 1968 they lived at 82 Atchison Rd, Crows Nest, Sydney and Colin (snr) was a salesman.
In 1972 Veronica was living alone in her home. Colin had possibly died in 1970.
Veronica died in 1977.
