The 1861 England Census shows Elizabeth age 28 at Carharrack, the head of the household, married and living with her daughter Elizabeth age 7. As Samuel is not included on the census and Elizabeth is recorded as married it can be assumed that Samuel on the day of the census, is working at the mine and therefore not present. Men on shiftwork eg fishermen, miners etc were supposed to be registered on a census at their place of work but this was not always done by the employers.
