Jane was born in Ireland. She died in 1855 as a result of injuries suffered when she fell into an open pit or shaft where he son William was digging for gold. A Coroner's inquest determined she was intoxicated. She was laid to rest in an unmarked grave in Campbell's Creek Cemetery (just south of Castlemaine, Victoria). Early in 2003 I arranged for a small memorial monument to be placed on her resting place.
