Ian Unsworth Notes:

I would like to contact Robyn in order to fill in some gaps relating to my maternal grandfather Matthew Carr who was the youngest brother of Christiana Dennett (nee Carr). He with his then family, including my mother, Sarah immigrated to Australia in 1911.

At that time my grandfather purchased land in 1911 at the corner of Loftus and King Streets Arncliffe, that is, 3 Willington Street. My father subsequently purchased the land and built there. That was my first home.

Noted events in his life were:

• connection. 76 The connection between Ian Unsworth & myself is as follows:
Ian Unsworth . . .
His maternal Grandfather was . . .
Matthew Carr (1875)
His father was Benjamin Carr (1835) & he also had Christina Carr (1865) who married George Dennett (1857)
They had George Dennett (1891)
He had Mary Dennett (1834) who married Arthur Davies (1921)
His father was George Arthur Davies (1894) who also had Colin Davies (1925)
He had me - Robyn Bray (nee Davies) (1950)

• Census. 76 Ian Unsworth notes:

This is an extract from the 1881 British Census relating to Matthew Carr and two of his siblings for Eccles Road Workhouse:

ntblBenjamin CARR13 M Inmate ScholarSalfordntbl Charlotte CARR U 9 F Inmate Scholarntbl Matthew CARR 6 M Inmate Scholar
This workhouse was aimed at training boys for the sea and girls for domestic service. Matthew did spend time in the North Sea as a 12 year old on the fishing smacks.

Benjamin Carr subsequently moved to Nova Scotia and was a member of the Halifax Philharmonic Orchestra as a renowned euphonium player. I have previously seen a newspaper cutting relating to that information.

Charlotte married a Charles Richardson and remained in Salford. They had three daughters, Elizabeth, Sarah and May who were born late 1800's or early 1900. They were spinster ladies and were actively involved with St. Bartholomew's Church in Salford. This is the church where Matthew Carr and Sarah Elizabeth Marsh were married in 1900 and my mother was baptised there in 1903.

Matthew worked at Tooths Brewery in Sydney from 1915 until 1945 as a bricklayer's labourer. Interesting how that trade appears on a regular basis.

Matthew married Sarah Elizabeth Marsh, daughter of John Marsh and Jane Williams, in 1901 in Salford, Lancashire England.76 (Sarah Elizabeth Marsh was born on 29 Dec 1875 in Salford, Lancashire England and died on 5 Jun 1957 in Rockdale, Sydney, NSW Australia.)
