Ann Jackman notes: Henry Ernest Cooper was born on 28 December 1857 at 10 Charles Mews, Paddington and was baptised at St James's Paddington on 24 January 1858. He died on 18 December 1949 at Lewisham. In 1881 he and his brother, Benjamin Cooper, were listed as Drugs Clerks, he aged 23 and Benjamin Cooper 21. They lodged with Michael and Elizabeth Roney at 4 Wesley Place, Newington. The following year in Surrey Henry Cooper married Elizabeth Newington, born in 1856 at Mitcham, Surrey, who died on 13 April 1941 at 49 Friendly Street, Lewisham, aged about 85 years. In 1881 she was 23 and a machinist living at 96 Alvey Street, Newington, with her mother, Annie Newington and siblings, Sarah Newington, 20, born at Southwark and a photograph mounter, Thomas Newington, 20, a seed merchant also born at Southwark, and Naomi Newington, aged 15, a warehouse assistant born at Camberwell. In 1901 Henry Ernest Cooper aged 43 and his wife, Elizabeth Cooper aged 44, were living at 302 Rotherham New Road in Camberwell, with sons, George, a 15-year-old engine fitter's apprentice, Alfred, Sea Sampler Agent aged 14, Walter,11, Esther,7, and Constance,4.
