  General Notes:

Ken Gray notes:
William Gray (James ) was probably born about 1725, possibly as late as 1730. He died "in the Revolution", before 13th May 1778. He lived in Barrington, N.H. and married, about 1748 or 1750, Hannah Foss, daughter of Solomon and Mary (Dows) Foss of Barrington. We do not find any record of his birth, or any record that could positively prove he was a son of James and Tamson Gray. George W. Chamberlain of Malded, Mass., in Dec., sends in some records and positively states that William was a son of James and Tamson Gray;. Chamberlain is a descendant of William and Hannah (Foss) Gray. Aug. 8th 1758 (Stratford co. deeds 56-218) William Gray purchased of James and Tamson Gray for $ 100, what appears to have been all the remaining portion of the said James and Tamson Gray's homestead in Barrington, 40 acres, no relationship mentioned. In this and other deeds William Gray is called, "mason" same trade as James Gray. William Gray appears fist in deed records, (Rock. Co. v. 40p. 169) Mat 21, 1752 when he purchased 30 acres in lot #22 in first Range in Barrington, of William Parker of Portsmouth, "in original right of Agnis Russell". It will be remembered that Agnis Gray, a possible sister of James Gray married, in Portsmouth, in 1715, Thomas Russell, and it appears that William Parker of Portsmouth married a daughter of Thomas and Agnis (Gray) Russell and in that way inherited this land in Barrington.
(Dr. A. H. Quint, historian of Dover. N.H. stated that William Gray died in the Revolution from which we may presume that he was a revolutionary War soldier.)
His estate was administered on 13th May 1778 by his son William. (Stratford co. Prob. V. 2p. 12). These records were furnished by James W. Chamberlain of Malden, Mass.
