• note: arrival, 13 Apr 1849, Sydney, NSW Australia. Ann Thriplow was the daughter of a Veterinary Surgeon in Thriplow County. After her marriage to Henry in 1835 she gave birth to six children - 2 boys and 4 girls. One of the boys, Joseph died aged 2.

After 14 years of marriage and seeing no future staying in England they decided to immigrate to Australia with their 5 remaining children.

They left England on 26 October 1848 on board sailing ship "Steadfast" and sailed for Sydney. It was a long slow trip arriving on 13 April 1849. After coming ashore they headed south to settle in the Shoalhaven district. Another daughter and a son were born in the Shoalhaven.


Ann married Henry Hastings Ison, son of George Ison and Elizabeth Cutter, on 25 Oct 1834 in St Georges, Thriplow, Cambridgeshire England. (Henry Hastings Ison was born on 26 Aug 1812 in Thriplow, Cambridgeshire England, christened on 8 Nov 1812 in Thriplow, Cambridgeshire England and died on 9 Mar 1887 in Shoalhaven, NSW Australia.)

  Noted events in their marriage were:

• note. In the church where Henry and Ann were married on 25 October 1834. a custom of the day in Thriplow was that the bridegroom had to climb the church spire and inscribe his initials in the lead covering.
