Henry Hastings Ison

  Noted events in his life were:

• emigrated: on the Steadfast, 1849. The "Steadfast" was just one year old when Henry and Anne Ison migrated to Australia in 1849. It was a barque of 444 tons with two fore sails and one main sail. 36.6m long and 8.5m at her widest. Into this small vessel would be crammed 213 emigrants plus crew for the three month voyage! Henry married Ann Triplow on 25 Oct 1834 in St Georges, Thriplow, Cambridgeshire England. (Ann Triplow was born on 4 Aug 1810 in Odstone, Leicestershire England and died on 7 Jan 1905 in Nowra, NSW Australia.)

• note. In the church where Henry and Ann were married on 25 October 1834. a custom of the day in Thriplow was that the bridegroom had to climb the church spire and inscribe his initials in the lead covering.
