I just wanted to drop an email as I believe my branch of the Smith family is descended from Henry (convict) Smith and Ellen (convict) Malone. I think we are from a son that you don't know about……that son being George Henry Smith born NSW circa 1835.
Attached is my great grandfather's birth certificate which that states his father George Henry Smith was born in NSW to Henry and Ellen Smith of NSW. Interestingly all my known family is from Far North Queensland around Cardwell, Ingham, Cairns etc but we don't know (yet) when, how or why George Henry Smith got to North QLD…..this is still a mystery.
George Henry Smith (NSW BDM Cert # V1835628 19/1835) moved to Cardwell QLD before 1864 and married Ellen Ahern (Cert # C479 1864 10th Dec)
I have 2 theories which I will explore, unless you have information otherwise.
1.After Henry died, Ellen took the young kids to QLD, which might be why you have no record of her in Bathurst/NSW.
2.Ellen remarried and took the kids to QLD
3.As you pointed out Ellen may have also died and the children later (at least my line) made their way to QLD.
