Many researchers list Robert, Mary and George Arndell as the children of John Arndell and Elizabeth Jackson, when in fact they are more likely to be the children of Elizabeth Jackson and Richard Evans.
Besides Esther, whose parentage is also problematic, Samuel is the only other 'likely' child of John Arndell and Elizabeth Jackson.
Robert married firstly as Robert Arndell, secondly as Robert Arndell Jackson. Other evidence exists (land grants, etc.) that he is the child of Elizabeth Jackson and Richard Evans. A letter written by Rev. Lancelot Threlkeld (transcribed below) indicates that he did not believe Robert to be part of the Arndell family:

In reply to your favour of the 13th Inst. requesting me to forward the Document enclosed to Mr. Robert Arndell or Evans I have the honor to inform you that he is in no way related to our family although assuming the name of Arndell, but the person alluded to is I am informed an overseer in Mr. William Bell's employ at Hunter's River in some of his Stations at Liverpool Plains.
Presuming the document will be delivered with more certainty as government dispatch I will take the liberty of returning it!

Robert married Jane Huxley, daughter of Thomas (the first) (convict 3rd fleet) Huxley and Ann (convict first fleet) Forbes, on 24 Nov 1817 in Windsor, NSW Australia. (Jane Huxley was born circa 1797 in Lower Portland Head, NSW Australia and died on 18 Oct 1833 in Jerry's Plains, Hunter Valley, NSW Australia.)
