Thomas and Jenny lived for about five years at Tavistock before making and implementing their decision to emigrate to Australia. Thomas and his family emigrated to Australia. Thomas accepted a managerial position in charge of 7000 acres in the
Hunter Valley in New South Wales, Australia. The family sailed for Australia in May 1837 from Plymouth on the sailing ship the "City of Edinburgh"
