According to our family history, our John Rowe was from a mining family in Cornwall, a number of whom emigrated and developed families in the Kyneton, Castlemaine, and Fryerstown areas, before spreading further afield to Melbourne suburbs. Considering Margaret Ann's youngest brother James Albert was born at Fryerstown in 1870, when she was about 14 years old, its likely Margaret and John met at school or on the Gold Fields around Fryerstown, which is around half way between Ballarat and Bendigo.
Family recollections claim Margaret Ann Vipond, was a teacher from a young age, and initially taught about 20 young pupils at the Nicholson Primary school number 1716 with her brother John, for a few years from around 1875 - 1879. This point makes some of her family movements unclear. Margaret and John married in Victoria in 1877, and had 3 sons on the Gold Fields at Fryerstown from 1878 - 1884, and a daughter in 1886 at Hawthorn in Melbourne. Sadly Margaret died the following year at Kyneton after only being with John about 10 years. John moved on, and had a further 3 marriages and 3 more children around Castlemaine, where he lived out his life and passed away in 1935.
