Frederick Steer moved to Victoria . Both he and his wife Mary Ann Moar had selected land at Yanipy by the time they were married in 1882 and they farmed for over 20 years in that area.
Following several bad seasons, the family had to give up Frederick 's farm in about 1895, but they kept the property owned by Mary Ann. At this time they took over the Massey Harris agency in Kaniva, selling farm requirements, oils, insurance etc.
