John Joseph England

  • Born: 1841, Bristol, Somerset England
  • Marriage (1): Harriett Frances Low on 20 Sep 1865 in Bristol, Somerset England

  General Notes:

Adam Bunting notes:
John Joseph, seems despite all my attempts to disprove it, to have married a second time, bigamously. His second wife was Augusta Poppy Starr, the illegitimate daughter of Fanny Maria Starr, who came from a Bath family. He and Augusta had just one child, my grandfather Walter.
Walter was born in 1895 and John died in April 1898 when Walter was only
2 - so all memory of him was lost to our family. All we know of John on our side of the family is the result of research. My England cousins agree with what I have found but we still have a reservation in the back of our minds, that something else may turn up.

Now when John married Augusta the marriage certificate shows John's father to be Charles England, hairdresser. My research showed what you
know: John Joseph had previously married Harriet Low and travelled around in the carpet business, staying for some time in Kidderminster (v important for carpets) and also Hammersmith (where later he lived with Augusta - and died, buried in Hammersmith & Fulham Cemetery). Then the census returns show: Harriet married (1881) but no John at home, and she's under magistrate's protection, then widow (1891 onwards).

Noted events in his life were:
