• note. 826 General Notes: Robert was born on the 15th of August 1840 the fifth child and first son of Robert Dodman and Mary Anne Rhodes. Robert was born in Aylsham Norfolk England. Robert married Mary Claxton at Freebridge Lynn on the 30th of September 1860. Robert and Mary's first child John Claxton was born in 1863 in Kings Lynn more likley Gaywood which is part of Kings Lynn now. At some time they moved to Gateshead which is now part of Newcastle Upon Tyne where three more sons were born, Frederick Paul 1865, Robert Richard 1867, and James Claxton 1875. Robert and Mary emmigrated to Australia in a ship called the Alumbagh which left Plymouth with 353 passengers on the 15 December 1876 and arrived in Australia on the 16th of March 1877 after a 3 month trip. In Adelaide they lived in Torrenside then Islington. Robert was a carpenter by trade and built cottages in the Islington area. Mary was a Postmistress and shopkeeper in the general store on Lower North Road Islington. Robert and Mary had a 5th son Charles Wesley on 2 May 1878, but he died on 24 June 1880. Robert died on 9th November 1881 and Mary had a 6th son William George on 13th November 1881. Mary moved to Archer street in North Adelaide where she lived until her death in Octobert 1922.
