  General Notes:

Peter Morris notes:
The second son of William and Anne, he lived with his parents when young and on 'Bellamy's Farm' at West Pennant Hills he ran his own flocks of sheep and cattle. In 1824 he applied to Governor Brisbane for a land grant and was given 60 acres. John and his brother James also had interests in the Wollombi district and John lived in the area for some time. John also lived for a time at Dural but we know little of his activities and movements except he was working for his brother at Pennant Hills in the early 1860s. In 1831 John received a grant of some 60 acres of land at South Colah, as did his brother. It was near to the 100acre grant given to his father at the same time. Certainly the major part of his father's land holdings went to his elder brother James. Primogeniture was still entrenched at this time, even in this far off land, Australia. John, as were his father and brother, was granted 100 acres in the District of Oxley, where the current Hornsby shopping centre is now sited. Not long after he sold the land.
On February 1, 1825 John married Margaret Kelly. John died at the residence of his brother James at Castle Hill and is buried at St. Pauls, Castle Hill and buried with him is his niece, Sarah Allen. The headstone was erected by his daughter Ann Sheather but the inscription incorrectly shows his death to be in 1874.

John married Margaret Kelly, daughter of Thomas Kelly and Margaret Kennedy. (Margaret Kelly was born in 1809 and died in 1856 831.)
