Lionel appeared on the 1901 England Census. His residence was: - Whitechurch, Whitechurch, Devon England.
Lionel passed his course in the Royal Military College in 1912, he appointed to the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regt.). He was appointed to Captain on Dec. 9 1914. On January 21st 1919 he was promoted to Temp. Major. He relinquished the tempoary rank of Major and became D.A.Q.M.G. on September 17 1919 and on October 1 1928 became a Staff Captain in the War Office. On June 11 1930 he became D.A.A.C. in the War Office. Major L.B.F. Groube was selected for command of the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Fusiliers in January 1939.

THE ARMY
ROYAL FUSILIERS.
The Duke of Kent yeasterday flew from Hendon to Hawkinge and then drove to Dover for an informal visit to the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Fusiliers, of which he is Colonel-in-Chief.
He was met at the barracks by Lieutenant Colonel L.B.F. Groube, commanding officer of the battalion, and then inspected several of the barracks rooms and the sergeants’ mess and married quarters. He presented Long-Service and Good Conduct medals to some of the men.

LIEUTENANT-COLONEL L.B.F. GROUBE AND MRS. HEBDEN.
The engagement is announced, and the marriage will take place shortly, between Lieutenanr-Colonel L.F.B. Groube. The Royal Fusiliers, son of the late Commander F.E. Groube, Whiteoaks, Stoke Poges, Bucks, and Joan, widow of Major H.H. Hebden M.C., D.L. (late The Royal Fusiliers), of Eday, Orkney (now at Aymestrey Vicorage, Leominster, Herefordshire.


Lionel married Joan Mary Bennett on 26 Jan 1942 in St James, Piccadilly, London England. (Joan Mary Bennett died in 1987 in England UK.)
