He appeared on the census in 1881 in Royal Navy. At sea or in foreign Port. Ship "Albatross".30 He served in the military in 1906 in HMS Montrose.
Francis also appeared on the 1901 England Census. His address was: - Whitchurch, Whitchurch, Devon, England.
On 25 April 1866, Francis was nominated as a Naval Cadet.
On December 12 1866 Francis was admitted as a naval cadet after passing his exams.
On the 15 April 1868, Francis had completed his course on board Her Majesty's ship "Britannica" and was awarded a third class certificate. He was appointed to the "Prince Consort on May 5th 1868.
The Evening Post, (Wellington, New Zealand) 30 May 1876, Page 2 reported that the: - H.M.S. Nymphe will be stationed at Wellington during the sitting of Parliament. Sub-Lieutenant Francis E. Groube was mentioned as serving on board.
In 1878 he was appointed Sub-Lieut. Francis served on the "Albatross" in 1880. In 1883 he was promoted to Lieut. Francis served on the "Belleisle" in 1887. He served on the "Crocodile in 1889 and 1891 on the "Triumph" as Chaplin and Naval Instructor.
On November 10 1897 Francis was placed on the retired list with the rank of Commander.
On 26 March 1898 Francis went on a Retired Officers short course of gunnery on the "Excellent".
Com. F. E. Groube was awared a Greenwich Hospital pension of 50 pounds a year in 1910.

COMMANDER GROUBE R.N.
Commander Francis Edmund Groube. R.N., retired, died on June 9, at Honiton, at the age of 79. The son of the late Colonel G.B.G. Groube, he entered the Navy in 1866, and became a lieutenant of the Orontes during the naval and military operations near Suakin, in the Eastern Sudan, for which he received the Egyptian medal with the Khedive's bronze star. He afterwards served in the troopship Crocodile, and in 1891 joined the Warspite, flagship at Queenstown. In 1895 he was appointed Inspecting Officer of Coastguard at Montrose, and he retired on November 10, 1897. The Travers pension of 75 pounds a year which he had held since March, 1928, becomes vacant by his death.
