Charles William Williamson enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 3/1/1916. His occupation is listed as Farrier and his next of kin was his mother Sarah Williamson c/o J. R. Williamson, Davyhurst, W.A. His mother’s name has been crossed out and the words “Mother deaf” entered above. His sister Mrs. Harriot Bottril is listed as next of kin and her postal address was Lion Hotel, Coolgardie, W. A. with 90 Crawford Rd, Maylands, W.A. as her residence.
The Certificate of Medical Examination describes Charles as: - Age - 27 years and 10 months, Height - 5 feet 8 inches, Weight - 127 pounds, Chest measurement - 31 and a half/34 and a half inches, Complexion - dark, Eyes - blue 6/6 each, Hair - Brown and Religious denomination - Presbyterian.
Charles served in France. He was admitted to Hospital with influenza on 18/8/1916 and sent back to his unit on 16/9/916. Whilst on leave on the 26/1/1918 he crushed his foot and was sent to Hospital. He rejoined his Unit on 23/2/1918 but was back in hospital with a septic right foot on the 1/2/1918 and once again rejoined his Unit on 9/3/1918.
Charles was in Hospital with gingivitis from 24/3/1918 to 13/4/1918 and from 14/4/1918 to 22/4/1918 with a perineal abscess. On the 31/10/1918 he was in hospital dangerously ill with Influenza which turned to Broncho-pneumonia. The family were notified of his condition and by 11/12/1919 he was out of danger and convalescing.
Charles returned to Australia per “Ascanius” and was discharged on 9/5/1919.

Charles signed a statutory declaration on the 11 October 1940 stating that he had lost his military discharge while “I was camped in the bush on road work and my camp was destroyed by fire on 18/1/1940” His address was 3 Braid Street, Perth. W. A. His brother J. R. Williamson is listed as next of kin and the address is Comet Vale, W.A.
