The Lancefield Mercury, Thursday, 25th August 1960. Mr. W. M. Stribbles The death occurred on Wednesday, 17th August, at Kyneton, of Mr. William Michael Stribbles, at the age of 83 years. Deceased was born at Ballarat and went to Kyneton to work in 1910. In 1913 he came to live at Lancefield, where he was employed by the late Mr. Simpson, baker, and in the grocery store of the late Mr. Hugh Cameron. Quiet and retiring, the late Mr. Stribbles was a keen billiards player and an ardent supporter of the Lancefield Football Club, for which he acted as gatekeeper for many years. His wife predeceased him and he is survived by two sons Robert and John. At the conclusion of a service conducted by the Rev. John A. Leaver (who also officiated at the grave-side), the funeral left Christ Church, Lancefield, on Friday afternoon for the Lancefield Cemetery. The coffin bearers were Messrs. R. and J. Stribbles (sons) L. Robbins and K. Stark. The pall bearers were Messrs R. Stribbles (grandson) A. Showler, J. Fagan, W. Slattery, H. P. Meyer, P. Linehan, M. Cussack and G. Brown. Amongst the numerous beautiful floral tributes was a wreath from the Kyneton Angling Club.
William married Anna Burn, daughter of Matthew Burn and Joan Dixon, in 1913 in Victoria Australia. (Anna Burn was born in 1882 in Lancefield, Victoria Australia, died on 24 Mar 1951 in Raglan St, Lancefield, Victoria Australia and was buried on 25 Mar 1951 in Lancefield Cemetery, Victoria Australia.)
