Catherine Blundell

  General Notes:

Catherine Blundell went on to have 6 children with Thomas Arnott after her marriage to him in 1866. It's obviously why I was originally told that she died in 1866. It's when she married Thomas Arnott so to the Sheppard family she had obiously "died" rather than to admit the failed marriage.
Janet (weslshdaffy on Ancestry) says after I made contact with her:
I have investigated further, I am coming round to your way of thinking, but I can't find any divorce records or marriage to my great grandfather. I have the birth certificate of my grandfather which states Catherine Arnott (nee Blundell) was his mother and Thomas Arnott his father. I am thinking they may never have married but she used the name Arnott. I have never understood how Catherine was born and lived in Northamptonshire then arrived in the North of the Country in Northumberland and then they both moved to Lancashire in the west of the Country. According to the records James Sheppard was living with his in-laws in Wales when he was 22 so must have moved to Australia when he was an adult.
It is certainly interesting and not something that I was aware of the family ever mentioning, but then they perhaps would not!!

Catherine married Jesse Sheppard, son of James Sheppard and Maria Baldwin, on 25 Feb 1858 in Daventry, Northamptonshire England. (Jesse Sheppard was born circa 1835 in Daventry, Northamptonshire England, christened on 4 May 1835 in C of E, Daventry, Northamptonshire England and died in 1908 in Orange, NSW Australia.)

Catherine next married Thomas Arnott in Mar 1866 in Durham, County Durham England. (Thomas Arnott was born on 17 Oct 1831 in Sunderland, Durham England, christened on 17 Oct 1831 in Sunderland, Durham England and died in 1881 in Bury, Lancashire England ⁶⁷.)
