Jack Athol Passau Williams. Jack lived in Manly and attended Manly Public School and then Sydney Grammar College, traveling there by Ferry. He was active in the Manly Cricket Club and Manly Athletics Club and was a member of
the Manly Masonic Lodge, as were his Father, JB Williams and Grandfather, FC Passau. Jack's three sisters, Phyllis, Brenda, and Gloria all attended Brighton College in Manly, and also later attended as Boarders at PLC in Goulburn.
Jack was married and lived in Perth as an employee of Woolworths. Jack was the very first employee of Woolworths, having joined in August 1924 \endash 4 months before Woolworths opened on 5th December 1924. Jack was honored at the 50th Anniversary of Woolworths. Jack's uncle, Robert Ernest Williams, brother of John Benjamin Williams was one of the founders of the Australian Retail stores, Woolworths. During the Second World War, Jack's position at Woolworths was considered to be necessary for maintaining business and so he served in the Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve. He was an observer on a boat that patrolled Sydney Harbour. Jack was not on duty on the night in June 1942, when a Japanese submarine fired a torpedo striking the Kuttabul. Nineteen Australian and two British sailors died.
