In 1829 Henry Walrond Edye made a journey to Hamburg, Germany, where he was introduced to the Sloman family. William Sloman, a shipowner, had migrated to Hamburg from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk in the late 18th century. Henry Walrond Edye was introduced to their daughter Diana Sloman, whom he married 1 year later. The couple took residence in Hamburg. Henry Walrond Edye founded in Hamburg at first his own business and joined later the firm of his father-in-law Robert Miles Sloman, a shipowning company.

Henry married Diana Frances Sloman on 12 Jun 1830. (Diana Frances Sloman was born on 21 Sep 1810 in Itzehoe, Germany and died on 4 Feb 1868 in Berlin, Germany.)
