John Edye was christened on 31st October 1732 at Lewins Mead Presbyterian or Unitarian Church, Bristol, Gloucester.
When in 1764 the number of partners in The Old Bank in Corn Street, Bristol, was reduced to four - Harford Lloyd, Isaack Elton, William Miller, Thomas Tyndall - it was thought advisable to admit two new partners Benjamin Gilles and John Edye. John Edye (partner 1764-1794) had been chief clerk and now took the place of Matthew Hale as managing partner. He resided at Prior Hill, Stokescroft, Bristol and afterwards at his country home at Frenchay, near Clifton, where he died 3 June 1794.
He was buried at the Unitarian cemetery of Lewin`s Mead, near Brunswick Square, Bristol.
