Charles Butler is recorded in the Immigration Index travelling to Queensland with his younger brother Thomas on the Indus 29th Dec 1873 [IMM;/115 p835 M1697] Charles was 22 and Thomas 18.

On 15 May 1911 Charlie Butler sent a postcard to his nephew Hugh Ramsay Butler (son of Thomas Butler of Cardwell) from Narogin West Australia. The card reads " Dear Rowdy I travelled about a lot since I saw you last. Was out at the Bullfinch for 6 months, and am now at Narrogin for a while. This job on 3000 (?) one is on a farm. I expect you wont be having one built yet a while. Was the "Yongala" wrecked any way near you. Now is the ???? getting an address home. Yours Charlie" The postcard was addressed Mr Hugh Butler Fringford Farm Cardwell Queensland but this address was scored through and over written G C Durack Esq, Survey Camp Clump Point Queensland." The original postcard was in a collection of Butler family cards and correspondence held by John and Heather Ryan current owners of Fringford Farm near Cardwell at Murray Upper.

My father Orme Butler always described Charlie Butler as a wanderer but certainly as he reached old age Charlie returned to live on Magnetic Island until his death.

Charlie Butler died on Magnetic Island on 15th February 1946.

Charles married Maria Scarborough on 20 Jun 1877. (Maria Scarborough was born circa 1860.)
