There is some conjecture as to whether 'Musfare', or any of its derivations, was in fact Mary's correct surname. She appears firstly on official records in the 1828 census, where she states that she arrived free on the 'Mariner' (2) in 1825; however there is no record of her, in any of her name variations, on the 1825 Muster. Nor is there any mention of the name 'Musfare' or any of its variations, to be found in a number of Irish Surnames books that I have consulted. The 'Mariner' on the 1825 voyage, carried women with spouses in the Colony. Presumedly this included 'Common Law' relationships. A search of the passenger list and convict lists has proven fruitless. There is a Mary Byrnes (a widow) listed as coming from County Wexford. Later research has revealed a Mary Ann Musty listed in the Muster of 1825. Mary Musty came free in 1825 on board the 'Mariner' as did the Revd Matthew Devenish Meares M.A, later of Windsor, who is shown as employing her in 1825 (At a time when Griffith was in Windsor). The Irish Surnames books list 'Mustey see MacStay an earlier corruption of an anglicised form of O'Mustey'. It is easy to see how someone announcing their name as 'Mustey' or 'MacStay', with a strong Irish accent could be understood to say 'Musfare' or any of the other corruptions. The fact that there is definitely a Mary Ann Musty on the 1825 Muster and no further record of her in the births, deaths and marriages after that date makes a good case I feel for her being our Mary Ann, who married Griffith in 1826, and then is absent from the various sources after that date.

• Arrival, 1825. 477 Mary Musty came free in 1825 on board the 'Mariner' as did the Revd Matthew Devenish Meares M.A, later of Windsor, who is shown as employing her in 1825

Mary married Griffith William Parry, son of Henry Richards Parry and Catherine Sarah Smith, on 27 Mar 1826 in St Matthews C of E, Windsor, Sydney, NSW Australia. (Griffith William Parry was born on 24 Mar 1799 in Shoreditch, London, Middlesex England, christened on 14 Apr 1799 in St Leonards, Shoreditch, London, Middlesex England and died on 11 Aug 1859 in Upper Mangrove Creek, Hawkesbury, NSW Australia 1007.)
