Griffith was a tallow chandler when charged with robbery at the Old Bailey on 15 Sep 1820 and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was transported aboard the ship 'Speke' departing England 22 Dec 1820 and arriving in the colony on 18 May 1821. He received his ticket of leave on 18 Aug 1828 and a conditional pardon on 15 Aug 1835.
Griffith was a police constable and poundkepper from 21 Apr 1824 until 10 Mar 1836 when he was dismissed. After his dismissal, he farmed at Upper Mangrove.
