I have very little knowledge of Frank Cecil Leary's life. This is what I have gleaned from my research.
He was born in 1875 in NSW - the 13th and youngest child of Joseph and Catherine (Keighran) Leary (as per the family narrative), and was aged 6 when his father died. The family seem to have been well educated from my research of his other siblings, and indeed, some others were quite artistically talented. Through TROVE I have found that in 1895 Frank was playing cricket in Kalgoorlie, WA; and when he enlisted in the Boer War in March 1901 he was described as a miner from Coolgardie, WA. He was a clerk with the Kalgoorlie Roads Board in 1909 and married in Coolgardie in 1911. As far as I can ascertain 3 children were born here, although their address for the last birth was Victoria Park in Perth (Mildred seems to have gone back to her mother's in Kalgoorlie for the birth and unfortunately he died a few days later of diphtheria). Frank embarked in Oct 1916 for service in WW1 and was discharged with a deafness condition in 1918. Incidentally he travelled overseas with his sister (Edith Louise "Lulu" Leary - a VAD nurse) also on board the ship. The next child of Frank Cecil Leary was Mike's father - Francis John Leary - who was born in 1920, then followed by another son, Joseph in 1923 (who was sadly KIA in WW2). Francis John Leary's surviving sister (Lilian) did not marry so Mike has a very small family unit. With the rest of the extended family on the eastern side of Australia contact seems to have dwindled out over the years, and sadly his parents are no longer here to give any more information.
