In 1849 according to notes from Lorna Sharf he owned Brundell which had 13000 acres and is near the Tumut River in the District of Murrumgicgee NSW, 65 miles from Yass and 14 miles from Gundagai. It was known as John Keighran's station. It was on the western side of Kiley's property "Red Hill"

In 1851 the Campbelltown Turf Club, represented by John Bray of Denfield, John Vardy of Menangle and three of John Waby's sons-in-law, William Fowler, post master, James Graham, wheelwright and Michael Byrne, farmer, leased 60 acres from John Keighran for a race course. Horse racing was well supported in Campbelltown and the 3 days when the races were held were a high point in the town's social life.
