He had purchased the half acre Kentucky ST block for 5 pounds in 1888 at a Crown Land auction, his brothers Chrles, Thomas and George buying adjoining blocks. Between 1916 and 1920 Eva bought the block on the other side. John and Eva moved to Randwick in the 1920s.


John married Eva Jane Case, daughter of Richard Case and Ellen, in 1892 in Walcha, NSW Australia. (Eva Jane Case was born circa 1870 and died in 1944.)
